Occupational health and safety which includes:

  • blood borne pathogens
  • immunization status and policies
  • respiratory protection

Before you start your rotation

  • Know your immune status and be up to date on your immunizations
  • Know how to assess and minimize exposures

During your rotation:

  • Make use of all necessary safeguards and precautions recommended by the site policies including appropriate protective equipment
  • Apply first aid: Allow the wound to bleed freely. Wash wound and skin sites which have been in contact with blood or body fluids with soap and water; flush mucous membranes with water.
  • Note details of occupational exposure, type of injury, health history of source, risk factors for blood borne pathogen infection.
