GLOBAL MEDICINE JOURNAL CLUB

Residents, fellows, faculty from all programs and specialties plus the GHEI and PGME global health community are invited to attend the inaugural Global Medicine Journal Club for a discussion of the Lancet December 2015 article: Regional contributions of six preventable risk factors to achieving the 25 × 25 non-communicable disease mortality reduction target: a modelling study.

Objectives

  • Overview the epidemiology and risk factors of non-communicable diseases, which account for 20-30% of mortality worldwide
  • Define barriers to the WHO’s 25 x 25 mortality target
  • Discuss potential interventions, including potential elective projects

The Global Medicine Journal Club is a new initiative led by Dr. Emilie Chan, University of Toronto Department of Medicine in collaboration with Postgraduate Medical Education. The Journal Club aims to engage medical residents, fellows, faculty, the PGME global health community plus all interested in global health for discussion of medical (and medical subspecialty) issues within a global context and provide a supportive environment for all.
